Editorial Policy

Oakworth Village publishes welcoming, practical coverage of Oakworth, Haworth and the surrounding Brontë and Keighley & Worth Valley Railway landscape. Our subjects include local history, railway heritage, walks, village life, community events, heritage projects and visitor guides.

Our aim is to help residents and visitors understand the area, explore it thoughtfully and make sound plans. Articles should answer a clear question, give the useful conclusion early, and explain the details that could materially change a reader’s decision.

Accuracy and research

We check historical claims, dates and place details against relevant evidence. Depending on the subject, this may include Keighley & Worth Valley Railway material, local council and heritage sources, museums and archives, historic maps, reputable local-history publications, and current transport or event information.

Sources are selected for their relevance and suitability to the claim being made. Historic maps and older publications are read in context, not assumed to describe present conditions. Changeable details—including operating schedules, event arrangements, route conditions, prices and policies—should be checked against current sources when they matter to an article.

Practical route coverage considers more than mileage. Hills, surfaces, access, timing and onward connections can all change a walk, as our Oakworth to Haworth walking guide explains. Readers should still check current access rights, weather, transport information and local notices before setting out.

Evidence, attribution and opinion

We distinguish supported facts from interpretation and editorial judgement. Significant claims are attributed when the source helps readers assess the information. Conflicting accounts, uncertain dates and unresolved questions should be described as such, rather than presented as settled fact.

Firsthand observations, tests and measurements are used only when documented for the work in question, and conclusions stay within the scope of that evidence. A researched explanation is not presented as personal experience. Illustrative or generated examples are identified as examples, not real events, observations or results.

Useful, focused coverage

Each article should serve a distinct reader need and offer concrete context, examples or next steps. We avoid adding detail merely for length. When calculations are useful, their assumptions and units should be clear. Relevant existing coverage may be linked to help readers continue their research without repeating the same material.

Corrections

We welcome reports of factual or practical errors. When a material error is confirmed, the affected copy should be corrected so readers have accurate information. To report an issue, identify the page and explain the problem through the contact page or email contact@oakworthvillage.com.

Information submitted through contact and email routes is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
